The “Younger Next Year Total Immersion Week” is an intensive, interactive week-long retreat that will be hosted by the Aspen Club and Spa in partnership with Bumps for Boomers, an Aspen Ski School program, and with Chris Crowley, the co-author with Dr. Harry Lodge of the best-selling Younger Next Year books.
The point is to show participants how to turn back their biological clocks by making lifestyle changes that aim to achieve total physical and emotional wellness. “I’ve long want to go someplace with people who have drunk the Kool-Aid and to have a destination week where we can practice the stuff,” Crowley says.
It’s for men and women 50 or older. They will learn “how they can become functionally younger every year for the next five to 10 years, and continue to live like 50-year-olds well into their 80s,” said the program announcement.
All Inclusive Fitness, Nutrition, Ski Program
Daily sessions and activities center on fitness and nutrition, including exercise, diet and emotional elements. “Sixty is the new forty,” said Crowley. “But, only if you work at it pretty hard.”
On the slopes, Bumps For Boomers ski instructors will spend three days with Younger Next Year Total Immersion participants. The aim is to show older skiers “more forgiving techniques that will help them ski the whole mountain,” Crowley says.
Joe Nevin, founder of Bumps for Boomers, said:“As you age, your reflex speed and balance tend to decline. We incorporate advanced training concepts that improve performance, increase balance and control, as well as reduce the risk of injury,” Most importantly, he added, “the unique techniques learned don’t require the need for fast reflexes—that translates into skiing longevity.”
Also part of the retreat is Bill Fabrocini, Director of the Aspen Club Sports Performance Center world-class Aspen physical therapist, as well as Dr. Riggs Klika, Executive Director of the Cancer Survivor Center of Health and Wellbeing in Aspen. From them participants learn techniques associated with the concept “of the mind-body connection, as well as key aerobic and strength training. Nonskiing particiants are welcome.
